    Thanks for this tutorial! So this RNAV computer is sort of allowing us to do OBS, but using a VOR? Few questions coming from your video: 1) 3:23 If we change the mode to VOR, can we just use this like traditional VOR, and ignore the RAD and DST? 2) What do you mean it can only be tracked by AP when there's no GPS? If we stay on VLOC (not GPS) and RNAV mode, then wouldn't the AP pick it up like it would with NAV1?

    Since the AI makes silly mistakes (prioritizing the decoy f-16 over the tomahawks), but the technical limitation is real, how would a real life SAM crew handle a situation like this? Because clearly they would know this is an obvious weakness and have a strategy to avoid it. Or is that strategy just having an IADS with multiple SAMs and overlapping coverage?

      >Since the AI makes silly mistakes (prioritizing the decoy f-16 over the tomahawks) The AI in Command is very twakable via doctrines so it is possible for scenario developers and/or players to make it more sensible (e.g. not to fire at extreme ranges and/or proritize more dangerous targets over the lesser ones). That is what distinguishes good scenario developers from bad ones in my book. > but the technical limitation is real Yep. That is why every RL doctrime out there since Vietnam war calls for atacking SAM sites from different directions if possible. >Or is that strategy just having an IADS with multiple SAMs and overlapping coverage? Pretty much this.

    Nice! Couple quick things... The 066 radial is not actually meant to be flown (thin radial line on the approach plate). It’s meant as a way to identify PUDGY. Meaning that if you are at 16 DME, when your bearing pointer tuned to the TACAN swings through 066, you know you are at PUDGY. You then keep that bearing pointer 90 degrees to your left as you arc. If you’re a little far, maybe only 85 degrees left… little close, more like 95 if that makes sense. So the arc doesn’t just terminate at 12.9… To fly this, you would arc at 16 nm as I mentioned before. When that bearing pointer hits 032, start your turn to the localizer, 204 inbound course. This lead radial is calculated based on a standard rate turn. The 12.9 DME is telling you that is where LEADS is, meaning passing 12.9 if established on the localizer you can descend further down to 2200 where you’ll intercept the glide slope. Hopefully that makes sense!

    • @joebartol891
      @joebartol891 2 дні тому

      I would fly this with the bearing pointer on the TACAN, course needle set to the localizer on 204 the whole time. No need for any swapping

    Good stuff, the 'best practices' I have seen mentioned by prior F-4 guys is to essentially always navigate with target 2. and put your next wp into the dials. Then when you get to your fix, you just do a quick reset to store your dials into target 2 and preload the next one. It also gives you the ability to quickly make changes if you get a new fix you need to head to. Essentially Target 2 for planned fixes and Target 1 for unplanned fixes like TOO, POIs, Anchor points etc

    Has pilot exhaustion been removed from fighters? My AWACS, Tankers etc. have it modeled, but F-35s, F-22s, F-18s have no limit it looks like as long as they have gas availiable... No 8hr limit on my game.

    I was fortunate enough to have seen three active duty Vulcans perform here in the USA in the late 70's and early 1980's. I sadly saw XL-390's last flight. August of 1978. Next came XL443 in 1980. 1981 was the prize year when XM 575 came, and here I got and inside, outside tour of the bomber, and the accompanying Nimrod MR.1 that ventured along that year.
